Location: Old Creel Canoe & Kayak, 2901 Hwy 2, Fall River, NS, B2T 1W3
Participants will launch from the dock or beach, located right behind our shop, and develop their paddling abilities on the beautiful Lake Thomas.
Description:
In this course, participants will be introduced to the ultimate self-rescue method for sea-kayaking: the roll! Within the session, we will discuss the basic mechanics and technique of the kayak roll, and then move onward to the on-water development of the rescue procedure.
If you require a kayak and equipment contact info@oldcreel.com after making your booking to let us know what type of kayak you would like to use based on your prior skills and height/weight. Kayak rental is an option below and costs an additional $40 plus tax.
Participants who bring their own boat are required to have a PFD, Paddle, Skirt, Whistle, 15 metre buoyant rope, 1 litre bailing device or pump.
Participants should have basic kayak skills and have successfully performed a wet exit prior to registering.
Cancellation Policy:
Participants will be refund 50% of the course cost if they cancel more than 48 hours before the course or clinic. There will be no refunds provided for cancellations with less than 48 hours notice.
Should something come up, participants may substitute themselves with another person for their course spot instead of receiving a partial refund; however, it is essential that the participant who booked the course provides us with notice of this transfer prior to the session, and that the substitute meets any prerequisites for the course.
We reserve the right to cancel the course for weather or if fewer than 3 participants sign up. We will make our best effort to reschedule the course.

Based on the Paddle Canada Waterfront Canoe Course. The Waterfront Canoe Program provides knowledge and skills necessary for calm water paddling in a designated "waterfront or beachfront" area. but is not designed to be a comprehensive course. You will learn how to launch a canoe, and will be introduced to canoe strokes. If time permits, you will be introduced to the basics of canoe rescue concept (how to get back in your canoe after a mishap).
